Then, the fact that Ian Somerhalder has been eluding to Damon moving on, possibly with Bonnie, only makes your heart ache a little harder.
But now, Ian has revealed something that might actually help your Delena-shipping heart start to heal. E! News asked the TVD star about how Damon is going to move on post-Elena in the upcoming season, and his response will calm your nerves about a new season of The Vampire Diaries without Elena.
"All I can say about that is that they were great characters separate, they were great characters together, and they remain great characters separated," Ian said. "Damon is still here and he's still evolving and he's still having a blast and he's still saying super-smarmy, ridiculously overly confident, very wildly embarrassing and degrading things and he will continue to do that, but with a little love for Elena in his heart."
